Every peoples had headache attack during their life. But little about headache we have in our knowledge. Knowing headache is essential not for educational purposes only. The very important about it lies on what are the life threatening condition may result in headache, and when to take an action. Most of headache are benign condition, only the pain that usually causes much distress to us. Understand headache is not complete without understand what consist of our head. In this uppermost part of our body lies skin, subcutaneous tissue, skull, teeth, nerves, blood vessels, brain and its layers, and a fluid system. Pain is conduct via nerves. The characteristic of the pain suffered gives clue which parts of our head are involved. Sharp shooting, stabbing-like pain is a characteristic of nerves pain, where as, a throbbing pain is a characteristic of arterial pain. A stretch-like aching pain cause by muscle itself and a constant pain is usually bone in origin. Apart from that, the other concept we should not forget is while muscle is causing the pain, the trigger factor must be find out. Pain from strain eyes are cause by muscles involved in controlling the eyes as well as the adjacent muscles. One should know that brain itself have no pain sensorium. The brain gives rise to pain if the layers covering it was too much stretched, either from the bleeding inside, or from any space occupying lesions. It simply explain why non-bleeding stroke have no headache at all, while bleeding stroke can cause severe headache from continuous bleeding. If ever non-bleeding stroke appears to cause headache, the other component like stretching of the brain layer can be the cause resulting from brain swelling. A pressure that developed inside the head usually causes vomiting as in space occupying lesions or glaucoma. Headache associated with rigidity of neck simply explains brain layers involvement. Now, how about a person who have not enough sleep experiences a headache? You see, when a person have sleep deprivation, a brain will send a signal to relax all the muscles especially which control the eyes. At the same time the person try to act in opposite by voluntarily works on that muscle. This contradict action result in pain. At the same time, we need sleep because the brain need sleep. The brain as we know the most oxygen consumer in our body because it continuously work during awake state. So, there is a time where it need rest to utilize an oxygen without need to work. Lack of oxygen itself can cause headache. So, sometimes there is one triggering factor which initiate all the headache process involving many parts in the head. Here, tell us that apart from knowing which parts of our head causing headache, knowing the triggering factor is very much important. Most of our headache is actually arise from how we conduct our lifestyle. You may find out that headache is common in peoples who are smoking, have sleep deprivation, having persistent cough, involve in so much stress from work, etc, and imbalance habit (too much caffeine intake, too much sex, too much facing laptop screen, etc). So, if you experience a headache, try to think what are the unusual things had come to me recently? Is it because the medication? The workload? Overactivity? Once know the trigger, try to avoid it for a few days and see the difference. It is advisable to make a diary so that you may easily trace the cause. Another variant of headache may results such as migrain, cluster headache, temporal arteritis, etc. Each of them has their own characteristic easily to identify.
